🔥 Tonight was INSANE! 🔥
The whare was absolutely buzzing for Local and Lit—a night created by Māori, for Māori, and for the kaupapa of keeping our voices strong. The energy in the room was electric, and the sense of whanaungatanga was powerful.
Local artists Timena and Awhi set the perfect scene, serenading the crowd and creating the vibe as candidates mixed, mingled, and connected kanohi ki te kanohi. 🎤🎶
Next up was the debate, masterfully hosted by Huhana Melanie Lyndon. The kōrero went deep and wide—from the four wellbeings, to the role of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in our councils, to how we keep building the movement for positive change. The whakaaro shared was absolute fire, and we’re grateful for every candidate who stood up and spoke their truth. 🔥💬
To close the evening, the incredible Jordyn with a Why brought all the aroha back into the whare. Her waiata reminded us of our power, our unity, and the importance of this kaupapa. All the feels, all the mana, as we wrapped up the night. 💖🎵
Whānau, this is how we move, this is how we grow, and this is how we protect what matters most. Let’s keep this momentum going:
🗳️ Remember to vote, whānau.
📢 Tell your mates, your cuzzies, your neighbours.
✊🏽 And vote Āe for Māori wards!
We’re so grateful for spaces like this—unapologetically Māori, unapologetically ours. Ngā mihi nui to everyone who made Local and Lit possible. Let’s keep our voices strong and keep pushing for change!
