Whangārei District Council 2025 Election Notice has been publicised.

Election Date: Saturday, 11 October 2025

Voting Method: Postal vote using Single Transferable Voting (mayor, ward councillors) and First Past the Post (Māori ward poll)

Positions:

• Mayor

• 2 councillors for Bream Bay Ward

• 2 councillors for Hikurangi-Coastal Ward

• 1 councillor for Mangakahia-Maungatapere Ward

• 1 councillor for Whangārei Heads Ward

• 5 councillors for Whangārei Urban Ward

• 2 councillors for Māori Ward

Māori Ward Poll:

• A binding poll on whether to KEEP or REMOVE the Māori ward, with results applying for 2028 and 2031 elections.

Nominations:

• Must be submitted on the official nomination paper by midday, 1 August 2025

• Nomination forms available online and at Te Iwitahi (Whangārei) and Ruakākā service centre from 4 July 2025

• Deposit of $200 required with each nomination

• Candidates can submit profiles and photos with their nominations

Electoral Roll:

• Closes on 1 August 2025

• Available for inspection from 4 July 2025 at the above locations

• Enrolment for residents through vote.nz or by calling 0800 36 76 56

• Ratepayer enrolment through the electoral office or ratepayer.co.nz
